OK I am writing a paper on word-of-mouth marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. I am doing a comparison on traditional wom marketing and new. Can I say that WOM marketing was initiated by the sales force and advertising?

Nether.. WOM is an idea that gets out fast or slow depending on the circumstances. Now days it could be very simple if you know where to look or it could be very expensive if you just want to get the word out. It will all depend on what you are trying to achieve.
