is a Psychology major in today's world good?
I'm totally confused. I'm thinking of taking a BS for psychology later in uni but there are so many mixed comments about majoring in psychology. Some people say it's very demanded, others say it's useless. I even looked into yahoo answers to see what people think. These answers were mostly from 3-4 years ago and they said that psych majors are useless, but could it have changed in today's society? I want to take a psych major in order to get into marketing. Or maybe a major in marketing itself, but I'm considering psych because it gives more job offers (its broader than marketing major). Now I'm doubting myself. I want to know if i can make a living out of a BS with at least 4000 dollars a month.

So should i take a major in psych, or marketing, or maybe even business (i don't really want to take business because so many people take it)?

If the view on psych degrees have changed in today's economy, please elaborate, i need some motivation and assurance based on facts, not opinions.
Edit: Of course marketing involves marketing. You want to know how a person thinks, how the society thinks, in order to sell your product. I guess i wanted to go into psychology because its more in depth about the human mind, so it will look more attractive in my resume. Well, what's the average salary for those into the marketing department? Is it relatively high or low compared to other jobs? And is it a worthy major? Thanks.
Edit again: Sorry,i said "of course marketing involves marketing", which didn't make sense at all. I meant marketing involves psychology.

Without staying in college 8-10 years to get a PhD, a basic Psych degree is useless because you wouldn't be able to work in the field. The only thing you'd qualify to do is be a receptionist at a mental health clinic.

4,000$ a month starting is insane. You won't make that in many engineering jobs, much less in marketing. If you want to get into marketing, major in it and be fully prepared to earn next to nothing while you get experience.

Psychology is still useless without at least a two year Masters degree. If you want to get into marketing major in marketing. Psychology has nothing to do with marketing. The classes you take for a BS will not give you any insight into how to market a product.

If you want to go into marketing, then I really don't see why you would major in Psychology? Get a marketing degree, and then you can get a Psychology minor to accompany it if you are interested in that study. The BLS also mentions advertising as a potential degree option if you want to get into marketing:

A B.S. in Psychology is not worthless per say, as it can be used in sales and like industries...but so can a history or english degree. You must have a graduate degree to be considered for any real positions in psychology, the market is currently saturated so you need to stand out.
