Help with my new twitter?

Well.. i've just got twitter as i wanted to follow a few celebrities and that, and i decided to delete my facebook so haven't got any online contact with many friends etc anymore. Just wondering, any ideas of how to get into the rhythm of using it, like getting rid of that initial 'newness' i know it's a bit of a random question it's just i can't use it properly when it just looks plain etc. any help much appreciated thankss.

Here's a start:
To follow someone just go their profile such as me (http://twitter.com/mike_PutriBro)
Then click on follow.
To write something to the person just click on the notepad on the top right corner (beside your name) and type @mike_PutriBro (message) for example.
If you want to write so everyone can see, if your account is not private, do not for @ in front and D (that's for direct message). If you type @ in the middle, you have tagged someone but everyone can see.
