I want to run a contest for a logo for my company. I want to involve Gen Yers because that is where I plan to place my product. I want to get friends at larger colleges around the US, but of course I don't know anybody except those at my very small college.

You shouldn't use Facebook to advertise -.-
All you do will annoy people with spam.
Go to some colleges, meet with the principals, perhaps have school-wide meeting arranged and give a presentation. Mention that you have a Facebook and give the URL. It isn't hard to market products, but it's more difficult to make everyone not hate you while doing so.

Do a search for facebook groups dedicated to TV shows, Music, Movies, Sports teams that you like and just start sending friend requests to college students in those groups. If you want their feedback you must have something in common with them first, so you don't look like some asshat trying to get free market research.

Just go to the relevant groups and fan pages and add people from there.
