How can I honestly improve this facebook page?
It doesn't matter if you're a fan or not but I'm trying to seek unbiased opinions on this page. Basically it's supposed to be a community for My Chemical Romance fans in or outside of Boston. I try to run it professionally, keep it organized, and post MCR related information as soon as it comes out from a variety of sources...a few people really love it because it's reliable, yet, for some reason, compared to other fan pages that are less organized and much more sporatic and irrelevant to the band, I'm not getting nearly as many likes/feedback. Without giving your opinion on the band, honestly how it can be improved so that more people like it in general?

You can look at it here, thanks:

My first thought when I went to this page was, 'MCRMY, what does that stand for?' So, I then typed 'My Chemical Romance' into the facebook search engine and it obviously displayed 2 things to me:

1) Groups with 'My Chemical Romance' written in full
(and)
2) MCR - which is obviously an abbreviation some groups have chosen which also shows up when searched for

I then typed 'MCRMY' into the search box and it found fewer entries than the original searches while also omitting either of those other two terms (what was typed in 1) and 2))

My point being that you might want to try two things (because I think your page looks awesome):

1) Put a space inbetween 'MCR' and 'MY' so that your group is included when the 2 search names are entered by anyone looking for fan pages on the band using either "My Chemical Romance" or "MCR" in the search engine

2) Add all terms to your group name so it shows up no matter what term is typed into the search engine - ie "My Chemical Romance MCR MCRMY"

It just looks to me like the name you've chosen to use (MCRMY), while obviously a recognized term for that band, is the less known of those three I mention.

I'm a little bit familiar with this band (good band, just not one I listen to) and, if I was to search for that band using either Facebook or Youtube, I'd type their name in full first, which is possibly why your page is being overlooked - it's possibly not the exact way people looking for stuff about that band are entering it into the search engine meaning your group is listed a long way down the search list.

Your page looks great, though!

The first thing people read is the description, and honestly, my initial impression was that you were trying to advertise your twitter and app (which I can totally understand, it's just that that might put people off). It might be better to make it clear that it's a fan page for MCR fans, particularly those from Boston, and make your aim clear - to post reliable information? To bring together a community of fans? To allow fans to meet others near them?

Also, as you've noticed, it's important to post news quickly and cite your sources - which you are doing. However, you probably should break it up a little and post things that allow people to discuss their opinions. There are so many pages out there, facebook and non-facebook, that are very well known within the MCRmy for their reliable information, so you should make your site more unique. DON'T post random things like "I had chicken for dinner". Fanpages that do that suck. Also don't post rumours, although you probably know that already! DO post tidbits about the band - "did you know...?" "What's your favourite song?" "Are you looking forward to the next CW?"

A couple of things you can do that will draw lots of attention to your page - 1) Run a contest or 2) Organise a meet up.

If you have an MCR-related item you don't want (not likely, I know!) or you have a few $$ to spare to buy a poster or something, try running a contest. Make sure there are rules like "you must like our facebook page or follow our twitter", but advertise it all over the place! The second option doesn't cost anything but is more stressful. Organise a meet up for MCRmy Boston fans in a place & time that suits most, then advertise advertise advertise! Say "like our facebook page for more details", and at the actual meet up you could give out business cards for your facebook/twitter/other accounts (make them yourself or buy them if you feel like it). Hope that helps.

Ultimately, it is a page for MCR fans in Boston - whilst anybody anywhere can like the page, it's likely to be people from in and around that area, so it might not get too many likes. Perhaps you could say in the description that everybody is welcome?
