Like how do you work it? Is it like twitter or myspace or facebook or something like do you have a friends list on their or something? How do you even like find people to talk too?

You have a list of contacts, often from your Facebook page, who have Skype. It is not really intended for just chatting to random people.

Using your microphone and speakers, you can make free calls to other Skype users worldwide. With a webcam, you can also have live video on your calls so that you can see each other.
I use it mainly to contact family in UK. I live in New Zealand, so ordinary phone calls can be quite expensive.
