New to twitter, trouble leaving comments?

New to twitter, I see people commenting to celebrities, I know you type @celebname, when I type that in the search bar I see the stream of comments left by people, but there is no comment bar to type in. If i go through profile and messages it says i can't send it because they are not following me. I don't get twitter!

to send a message log in to twitter and type then click tweet

to send a message to @someone type in @someone in that same tweet box and hit tweet

you cant send a direct message to someone unless they are following you.
