How long does it take for Twitter @replies to disappear?

I've heard @replies can only be deleted by the person who posted them, but do they ever disappear on their own? Is there a third-party application that can delete them, or at least make them invisible to the public's view? I don't want mine to be on display forever. I have @replies that were posted a month ago are they still show up when you search my Twitter name.

Sorry, @replies are always publicly viewable unless the original tweeter deleted them. However, you can protect your own tweets by protecting your account in twitter settings. But that will not protect @replies posted by others.
