With twitter everything is public.

If you want to direct a message to someone, you put @username at the start of the message. That doesn't mean the conversation is private, it's just used to indicate that you are talking to or about a specifc user.

Simply update your status in the "What's happening" box to post a public message to your twitter profile. Anyone who follows you will also see this message on their page.
