Looking for creative/challenging games?
I am an avid RTS/simulation games player. I really enjoy games that give you a mental challenge, not just trying to get more headshots or RPGs where you run around doing quests.

I'm trying to find more games that make you think and possibly are creative as well. Examples of games that I currently play are below.

- Total War series games
- Kerbal Space Program
- Starcraft II
- Minecraft
- Spore (For a little bit, gameplay was repetitive)

etc.

So, what types of games are similar to these, that are recent on the market? I've tried Civilization V and XCOM, but they seem a bit boring being purely turn based. (Total War is more interesting due to battles as well)

So, what games are out right now that are good? Preferably steam games, since the steam autumn sale is going on.

Well, you say challenging? well Oddworld Abes Oddysee, is ridiculously hard. It's not so much as strategic, but just difficult to play in general. If you're looking for a game that makes you want to break something that's a good pick. It's not an rts btw. Stronghold Legends is an rts. It's much more involved than sc2 though. it's a medieval strategy type game. i still like sc2 more though. OH, and ijust remembered another game. Its called portal. theres a second one too, portal two. Its a strategic fps like game, where you need to get to the next room by using your portal gun. It's complex to describe so check it out on youtube.

I really have a lot of fun playing eRepublik! Maybe you like it too!
It's a free game that simulates a life full of social interactions, where you fight, you have companies, you are part of groups and you can even write on newspapers.
Millions of people all around the world are playing simultaneously.
In the end, unlike the other games, in eRepublik you can really feel the people around you.
You also meet many interesting friends! Try it!

If you like science fiction type games, and it sounds like you're into politics and government simulation as well, perhaps you'd like Martian Empires. Martian Empire is a free to play massively multiplayer online browser based text based simulation game. So basically, it's free and you can play from anywhere. (Even on mobile devices and tablets)

You get to create your own colony on Mars and manage it, while interacting with other players (starting wars, trading resources, cooperating, whatever). Your primary goal is to build a bigger colony, however you could have as many political, economic, or social goals as you want. You should definitely check it out.

It's available at http://www.martianempires.net/
