Why I don't see my reply to someones update on Twitter?

OK, here is the deal and I'm sorry If I sound dumb, but I'm trying to figure that out for the past few days.

I follow a friend, but he don't follow me. When he/she updates it shows on my profile. There is an option that I can answer them. I do answer and I see my reply on my home page, but on theirs I don't see it.

What I have to do in order to communicate with them and why my answers are posted only on my side?

When you send someone a reply it shows only on your homepage, not the other person's profile. When that person signs in they can hit the @Reply tab and it will show your message directed at them.

When you reply to theirs, it shows on their profile. Just click on their picture/username. It will show up.
