why is my computer running so slow?

I have windows 7, & this is a brand new lap top I got just at the beginning of this year its an hp & thats all I really know ... Windows 7 is great & really fast & mine was until I downloaded Quistodio, a website blocker ... Now, I'm sure if its because of this reason or if i have a virus but I'm use to being able to to surf like 5+ sites at a time, like youtube, facebook, twitter, google, college sites, etc but while i'm on those sites youtube video will stop working & things like facebook will lag while i'm trying to scroll through my newsfeed ... This has NEVER happened before & I just want the problem fix, I miss being able to be on a billion & one sites while listening to music, who wouldn't .?
So I need someone who knows a lot about computer's take on this, is it a virus, is it the download or what .? What I call the manufacturer or can i fix this myself (I know quite a bit about computer & general problems but nothing really major) .?

I recommend deleting Quistodio, Then do this:
Get AVG Free 2013
Download Google Chrome
Download AdBlock Plus.
Then you're all set.

Also, steer away from pre-installed programs that came on the laptop (Bloatware) and internet explorer.
