Does having a large internet following count more than a resume?
I heard that paper resumes are outdated. I heard that some employers look at people who have a large following on an internet site like twitter, facebook, pinterest, linkedIn, etc? Or does it look more like somebody who spends a lot of time in the internet updating stuff?

resumes shows all the successes and positive aspects that you want to show to the employer, and having a large following can be something you can be proud of I guess

You heard wrong. While many prospective employers will accept a resume by e-mail, the resume and cover letter is what gets you the interview.

Unless you are applying for a position where a large twitterverse or blogosphere following is a stated qualification, those would be of little or no value at all. To be honest, my Twitter and Facebook presence is hidden from my employer and any prospective employer. As far as they are concerned, I don't even have an account.

Linked In may be of some value in making contacts and locating openings before they are advertised to the general public, however to be of any real value you must be a paid subscriber.

If you were applying for a job at Facebook or Twitter, or if you want to work for some sort of online celebrity gossip site, then *maybe* that kind of stuff would count in your favor.

For most real jobs, quite honestly, something like that would probably work against you. In my opinion, it would make you seem shallow and unprofessional.

I fail to see how a large following would count toward work experience.

If I were hiring you based on that you wouldn't get hired.

I want to know what assets you are bringing to the job that would help my company.
