Benefits of using Twitter over Facebook?

It seems people post what they're doing on Facebook, just like Twitter. I just made my first twitter account but have no idea what I'm gonna use it for. what are the benefits of using Twitter?

Twitter generally is not private, which means that anyone can read your posts. You don't need to add them first.

Twitter has hashtags, which means that you can find a particular subject and post something about it, in the hope that someone will search for that hashtag, ie you're in New York and you post #newyork.
