Can you go to prison for harassment without violence if you've never met the person and all online?
Hello, I was wondering is someone could give me some advice?
For the last two months I have been harassed over the internet. It all started over a petty argument between myself and this female. Both of us said quite nasty things to each other. After around a week I blocked this female and she continued to message me. I rung the police several times as this girl had been writing racist comments. The police basically said we were both as bad as each other and we were given harassment orders to not contact each other. She continued to write horrendous things about me (but not directly to me) and I responded by doing the same and writing on my Twitter that she was stupid and a bad mother. She was arrested and denied the charges and has been released on bail pending inquiries, but it looks like she's going to get away with it due to lack of evidence.
I voluntarily went to the police station (not arrested) and admitted that I had written the things about her but had not contacted her. She has now accused me of racial harassment.
Even though I have 50+ screenshots and she has 2 (since the order) I have been given a summons to attend court to answer charges of harassment.
I have a previous caution for sending my partner's ex a few nasty messages.
As far as I'm aware this female has 3 cautions, one including racially aggravated harassment to another seperate girl.
I am a young mother and am terrified I'm going to be "made an example of" and sent to prison and lose custody of my child, I am sick with worry and my solicitor is on annual leave and I desperarely need advice on the likely outcome. I live in the UK.

Well, I dont know for all countries, and Im not lawyer, but I would assume it shouldnt be much more than a fine, unless it was serious sexual harassment such as distribution of sexual photographs and such.

I do not think that a crime exists called "racial harassment" (in the US).

If you take any thing away from this experience, take this away 1) you are concerned over criminal charges - you know what you did was wrong. 2) You try to justify yourself that someone doing "more wrong" makes it OK for you to do wrong, but just cant seem to convince yourself - so are asking others to validate; which they will not. 3) Change your behavior - simply remove yourself from the situation -do not engage in or respond to the "petty argument" on the internet or anywhere else, if you do that, it will likely go away. 4) Realize that there a over 5 Billion people on the planet, many starving, dying and or in prison because of what they believe in; your argument is really petty.

If you take the time to reflect on your situation and learn from your mistake, you will be all right. If you do not, you will probably get everything you deserve.
