Be a little smart, if he has facebook or twitter or any other social network.....(etc) so you can like add him NOT using your account just make another random account and don't put your name or anything that can tell it's you...
You can add him and talk to him and just send him random gay nude pics and then at the right time ask him if he's gay if he says no he might be lying to you make sure you know and then ask him do you like any boys in your school and goes on...!!
Then try to tell him you like him but make sure he is gay!!
You can also use any other ideas!!

You sound like you're not sure , for all you know he could just be a nice straight dude , if you really want to know just ask him, he could lie though and he has his reasons why ,but in the back of his mind he will think about what you asked him and will eventually tell you that's if he's really is gay.

I'm not sure if it was specified, but are you openly gay? If so, I would find maybe a female friend of his who is a mutual friend with yourself and ask her if she could find out if he is or not. Im not necessarily asking for her to make a move, but just socially bring it up in a conversation.

You should not make the assumption that he is gay. Even guys who may appear somewhat effeminate may not be gay. He may be "questioning" or bi-sexual or whatever. Just be his friend. If he wants to let you in to his inner-most feelings, he will. Just give him time to get to know you and understand you a bit. If he really wants to confide in you, he will.
