I am considering buying a Kindle Fire. I am new to pc tablets and don't know about apps. Can I only use apps from Amazon,or anywhere such as Facebook app, etc. I really like the price but I don't know about the memory, etc. For around $50 more I can get an HP tablet (bigger size/more memory). Would that be the better choice? I would appreciate any information.

I would get a kindle fire, and yes you can use apps on it. It will definitely be supported better than the hp tablet, and ultimately that is very important. Only a company as large as amazon really have the might to take on Apple.

Have a look at this review. I think it might help you with your choice.

Good Luck

It's the first tablet under $249 worth buying. It's a better tablet than the Nook Color, and it's 25% less expensive.

Yes, it will work with apps, which you can get from Amazon's App Store.

HP abandoned the tablet market and stopped development on its webOS operating system. Stay away unless you like playing with rooting etc. Memory size: Amazon changed the game by developing software that manages storage and processing remotely in its cloud infrastructure, so don't be bothered by the 8G spec -- it's just a local buffer now.

Advantages of Kindle Fire:
1. Its unique cloud-accelerated "split browser" is optimized for web browsing and multi-media, which are the best functions of tablets.
2. 7-inch display is very easy to handle and is highly portable.
3. Its $200 price is very low relative to other tablets.

Disadvantages of Kindle Fire:
1. No cameras; no SD cards.
2. 7-inch display shows smaller views of documents and movies than 10-inch displays do.
3. It's not running the latest version of Android.

It looks good overall, but it's up to you to weigh the relative importance of those factors.

Reasons to order it now:
1. You'll be in line ahead of others should supply not meet demand.
2. You know you want it for sure and don't want to think about the decision any more.

Reasons to order it after release:
1. Problems could manifest in the design or manufacturing of the Kindle touch once they start shipping.
2. Another product might be released which you'd like more.

All things considered, given Amazon's excellent track record with Kindles, I don't think there's much risk in going ahead and pre-ordering one of the new Kindles now.

You'll only be able to use apps from Amazon, but there will be enough apps to do anything you want. Same as iPad.

Amazon has tons of apps that you can use on the Kindle Fire. But if you're going to order one I would do it right away, otherwise you might have to wait a while because the Kindle Fire is selling like crazy right now because everyone wants one for Christmas.

The Kindle Fire is actually pretty cool, I'm hoping to get one for Christmas this year. Anyway there are tons of apps that you can use on the Kindle Fire plus for extra storage you can use Amazon Cloud free of charge.

Hey, Courtney, B&N is rumored to be coming out with Nook Color 2 shortly that will sure to have Netflix app among others (you won’t find it on Kindle). Kindle Fire is no more media tablet than even current Nook Color, most specs are the same, just a bit faster. Kindle Fire doesn't have microSD slot that Nook Color has thus it is stuck with 6 GB usable internal storage unlike Nook Color that can get up to 32 GB card in. Kindles are made to be almost like a "dumb terminal" of the past to make sure you're tied up to Amazon's storage on the web (for which you need Wi-Fi connection to get to.) and you can only store content you get from Amazon there, not other files. Also, VERY IMPORTANT – lack of microSD slot means that if you decide to root your Kindle Fire, you’ll have to root the actual device thus there will be no coming back. On Nook, you can make it boot from a “rooted” microSD card and if you want to get back to the original Nook you can just take out the card and reboot. Nook Color still has the best on the market anti-glare coated screen that is better for reading/viewing outside.
