Macbook Air 2012 OR Macbook Pro 2011 Non Retina?
I am an everyday user and I am looking for a new laptop. I want to surf the web (youtube, facebook, twitter, tumblr), Watch videos, Listen to music (about 500 songs) and watch movies on netflix and such. I also want to do homework (microsoft word/powerpoint.) I want to know which computer is more worth it and better.
By better I mean faster processor, load up and shut down and such, and will respond quicker if I open an application etc. Which one is a more "bang for my buck?"
They're both 1,200 dollars so I'm torn apart. I don't really care that there is no DVD drive on the air. I don't care that much about the portability because the computer will usually be on my bed or desk (I am able to carry it.)
The only problem is the storage space. The air that I want to get is 128GB storage space. Will that be a problem? I have 60 GB right now on my PC, and I want to keep this computer for a long time (maybe until college which is in like 4 years..) So which one is more worth it?
OH also I don't have any pictures or movies and I'm not planning on putting any on my new laptop. I thought that would help... I do have songs, though and my playlist is expanding on iTunes. Just putting that out there Smile) Thanks guys
thanks so much for the answers. i forgot to add that I like the game the sims 3. LOL. I thought that would help.. maybe.. ok thanks so much for answering Smile

i would recommend the pro non retina. loads more space and will last a long time. storage on the air is faster but way too small.

If you can, buy the Air 2012 and an external hard disk drive of 250GB -500GB or even 1000GB. I don't really like Macbooks because the battery is fairly poor (10H of batteries)
The Air is good for Social, the Pro is more for Graphics and design.

THe Air 2012 is good for people how are often on Social network. Just keep your power cable in case you miss battery. 128GB is good for music, pictures and small documents. Not for gaming or Design.

Good luck!

I'd recommend the MacBook Air for your needs, since you really don't seem to need so much storage.

They are both 2012 models. At Amazon.com they both cost about $1120. The MacBook Pro has 500 GB storage on a Hard Drive with a 2.5 GHz i5, the MacBook Air has 128 GB storage on Flash Memory with a 1.8 GHz i5.

What this means for speed: The MacBook Air will probably boot faster and open applications faster because it has flash memory and doesn't need to spin a hard drive. However, the faster processor on the Pro means that certain in-program functions will be quicker. Personally, I would prefer the Air for speed. (Actually, I personally spent a little more money to get the best of both worlds, an SSD on the Pro.)

What this means for storage: I have a 128 GB hard drive, and it's fine, but I have to manage my space carefully. I do have movies and photos and lots of software and even a virtual machine, but I like to keep the photos and virtual machine on an external hard drive. This leaves me with about 40 GB free space. Since you won't need as much space as I do, you'll probably be just fine with the storage on the MacBook Air.
