Can you "become" an alpha male?

I had a sheltered life, raised very old-school. At 14 I didn't even know sex was necessary for procreation. I ended up losing my virginity at 22, to an obese, overpriced prostitute. I was and still am all about poetry, personal culture and idealism. This started to change when I moved out and lived on my own for two years, working as a ghostwriter. I had some exposure to the world and learned more about human nature. It really is a mixture of a Neanderthal and Machiavellian place.

I heard "alpha males" have genetic and developmental traits. They're usually sons of alpha males, growing up in competitive and somewhat vulgar and violent environments. They're physically imposing. They become social animals early on, dominating any setting, fighting other alpha males, signing beta males on as "sidekicks," and all the girls want to be with them. This seems true in light of the "alpha males" I've known.

So I guess my question is, does one ever "become" an alpha male? I'm looking for a realistic answer. I never paid much attention to the "online dating expert community" and I don't really value the marketing of any "relationship guru."
I'm 24 now if it matters.

Quit jackin it all day and treat women with respect. U do have a mother, grandmothers, aunts ect. right?

You know, I've read some of that alpha male stuff and the truth is girls want to be with them when they are looking for dangerous guys. But once they date one, most women really don't like them. Trust me. I married a gentle giant. He's sweet and smart and nice and though he's big enough to crush smaller men in his hands, he's only been in one fight his entire life. He also isn't anyone's side kick. Look at your self. Are you someone's side kick or your own person? The alpha male stuff is a load of ....junk. It's basically saying that women like bad boys. Most women only date bad guys once. And no one with self-esteem marries an "alpha male".

I'm sure you could work to change your personality successfully, but why would you want to? You sound like you're already fine. Honestly, if you aren't meeting women you like, look at making a good first impression and make sure you're meeting the kind of women you'd want to date. When women are in their bad boy phase they are young, totally immature and full of drama. We grow out of it. And usually by about your age.

So yes - I think you could totally change your personality and life situation. But please don't. There are already enough jerks in the world.

You're thinking too hard. In terms of wolves, sure one male can challenge the current alpha male by fighting for the position. If the current alpha loses, the opponent wins the alpha position. For humans, well it doesn't matter in terms of happiness. Just be the best you can be. What really matters to you in life? If you want to be an alpha male, work out at the gym until you look like a cover boy for Muscle & Fitness magazine, then you might have a shot when you reach your peak between ages 30 to 34. Sorry, but I really don't know. I think I am getting tired and have to go to bed soon.

Alpha males are throwbacks to caveman days, when a bad tempered, hard charging leader was necessary. Often they are violent. The die for them is cast as children or teenagers. Supposedly, one in eleven men is an alpha male, though the traits are not always easily visible. Modern society loathes men of violence and bad disposition. An ambitious male will work at hiding his traits if he thinks they will hold him back.
