I can't seem to find any information on this! A detailed answer and a link would be much appreciated.
I will be choosing a Best Answer.
Thanks!

Very difficult to provide a link other than to suggest going to the websites for each of the countries your question addresses.
Satellite nations of the USSR (to some extent the USSR, itself) were noted for building consumer goods and automobiles of questionable quality. When they were 'set free', so to speak, the first major hurdle was to find the resources (investment and leadership) to train the work force, re-tool factories and rebuild/create infrastructure.
All of this had to be done first in order to allow for other social programmes to follow. If you manage to catch news from Europe throught such sources as DW (Deutsche Welle) television productions, you will find much of this 'catching up' is still taking place in such nations as Poland and Czechoslovakia. In Poland, for example, there is a 'black market' for stolen farm tractors/equipment smuggled in from other neighbouring nations.
