Old Twitter handle directing to new one?

I changed my Twitter handle a few days ago and for some reason when I type my old username into the search box, it is directing to my new Twitter handle, which I don't want it to do (I mean, I changed it for a reason). Is there any way to get this to stop happening? I follow a few people who have changed their handles within the past few days, too, and if I search for their old ones, I don't get redirected to their new ones. Any reason mine is doing it?

This usually happens when you use the same information for your new Twitter handle. It will redirect for a short time. It is just like changing your name on facebook. All of the followers stays the same. New handles require separate email addresses to avoid this.
