How do you buy or borrow a book on Kindle?
I was given a Kindle for Christmas and i'm having a lot of trouble finding out how to do things as there isn't any instruction book and the one on line is hard to follow and is aimed at the American market. Could someone take me through the process step by step in simple language? Do i need to have Amazon Prime or will just plain Amazon be enough? Bear in mind you'll be trying to teach an old dog a new trick.
Perhaps i should have said it is a Kindle Fire HD.

Be sure you are connected to the internet via wifi.

Go to Books at the top menu bar (you may need to scroll it a bit).

On one side, find Store.

From there, you can search for top selling Kindle ebooks, or type in a search title or term.

You can view thousands of books and can get sample chapters from most of them for free. Be sure to read the reviews before buying.

You can also go "window shopping" on your computer here.

You'll see on the right-hand margin, the Top 100 and Top 100 Free Kindle Books. These lists are updated hourly.

The website Inkmesh also lists free books every day, and you can follow them on Twitter or Facebook for daily updates.

One more thing, if your local library uses the Overdrive e-book system, you can borrow books from your local branch for free.

Hope this helps!

By the way, as you've just registered your Kindle Fire HD, you have 1 month of Amazon Prime for free. this means you can borrow one free book from the Amazon Kindle Owner's Lending Library, as well as having unlimited viewing of titles from the Prime Lending Video list.

A reminder, you can download the free Kindle App on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. From there, you can share the same video and book content from your Kindle Fire HD.

Please ask if you have any more questions.
