participating in a local parade.
participating in local flea market or farmer's market
sponsoring a kids' sports team (like Little League).
hiring someone to wear a placard and walk around town handing out a small freebie gift with your logo and business info on it.
hiring a sky writer to fly over a community event.
writing a press release for your local paper every time something new happens in your business.
connect your business with a charity (local or otherwise).
run a contest on Twitter for a prize where the entry into the contest is dependent on the tweeter re-tweeting your tweet to his/her list of followers.
do the same as above but for Facebook
take advantage of online classified ads that have local component to them.
do a search for the term local marketing and there is a site that comes up that specializes in local marketing only.
