I keep getting weird spam texts. How did they get my number?

Okay, so I posted this is another section, but I want as many answers as possible.

Earlier, I got a text from someone that said their name was Jen(ny) and greeted me by name and told me to add them on Messenger. I got another one a few minutes ago from a different number and gave me a different username. Can anyone help with this? I know it's just spam, but how the heck did they get my name and number?!

Did you ever register some websites with your name and phone number? Some people sell personal information to others.

Because you are careless with your ID.
If you don't wan't to be known on the web then:

Read and UNDERSTAND the privacy statements on all sites you visit.
Don't use Twitter, facebook etc.
Don't use permanent sign-ins to any sites, Google, Yahoo, MS etc.
Do not link sites together.

Even TRUSTED friends give out their friends ID's for a laugh/revenge etc.

Once you information is out there, you can NEVER get it back!

i dont register my number except on a view major sites and i just got those same texts today, no idea where the spam is coming from.
