Public Relations major a good idea?

Hello, i am a Freshman in college and was wondering what the possibilities are with a Public Relations major? I am VERY interested in the field and think it might be more popular in the near future due to the rise in social media and other advancements in communication. I was going to minor in Advertising/Marketing and Journalism perhaps. I was wondering if this is possibly a bad idea? Seeing as how im majoring in a field that is not as broad as Marketing for example.

Yes! That's the exact same thing im doing. You nailed it do to all the social media it's a very good field to be in.

I am currently a communications major. im learning about everything from comm styles to advertising to critical thinking, media, technology, music, film, journalism, etc... you get the picture. I think its a great major and ive definitely gained some perspective about life and understanding more people on an interpersonal level. this career field is pretty broad and has a lot of open opportunities in it. For example, i graduate next spring and i have a favorites list of all my favorite companies i would like to potentially work for. this is definitely a position where you would have to handle people.

Career avenues in Public Relations are bound to increase in the near future. Since the Corporate Social Responsibility concept has come into the picture, companies need more and more people who specialize in managing Public Relations.
