How can I avoid getting distracted while writing a paper on the computer?
I cannot focus at all on my task. I work for about 10 minutes but then I get distracted stupidly (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.). I cannot disconnect myself from the Internet as I need it for my work. But at the same time it constitutes an addiction.
Are there any self-motivational techniques I can use? Or are there any PC programs that would effectively block all the distractions? Which alternative should work better?
Please guys, serious answers... Thx!

It's not addiction, it's just an itch. Start by trying to concentrate for 20 whole minutes without doing anything else, then walk away from the compter and watch tv for a few minutes as a reward, then see if you can do another 20 minutes. After a few days up it to 30 minute uninterrupted sessions. You will eventually be able to sit down and focus for an hour or two at a time, which is all you need.

Make sure any alert sounds are turned off and all you can see is the apps you need.

There is this application called SelfControl you can download it free from the internet. From there you can black list certain sites and set an amount of time for them to be blocked.

Hope this helps
