Does this sound rude to you?

Today on twitter I noticed I had 99 followers, so I tweeted "who's going to be my 100th follower?"

A guy I talk to regularly replied and said "0--it's all you care about"

I felt that was a bit rude so I said, "I'm sorry???"

He replied with "hehe"

I am not sure but this sounded rude to me. Having many followers is not all I care about. I want to build a following with other runners and freelance writers like myself, and I don't care if that number is 100 or 1000.

He's pretty nice most of the time but this seemed downright rude to me. Am I overreacting?

I recently called off a friendship with a guy who called me names, and I am still hurt by it so I'm pretty sensitive at the moment. I cant stand to be hurt again. If this guy gets too crazy, he's unfollowd. Or blocked

Even if you were "fishing" for tweeter followers,i would've thought that a regular contact like he is would've thought up something more tactful than he did.

That is certainly not the way I would have replied. He was at the very least impolite. Even if he did mean in a jokingly manner.
