What is the best major to enroll in related to Social Sciences?
I want to either major in psychology or sociology (BA) but everyone is saying that its useless. So can you think of any social science major that could get me a job that will be in demand in 4 years??

The reality is that we are reaching a point to where a Bachelor's in ANYTHING is worthless, so to speak. At one point in history, a high school diploma was considered a great accomplishment. Many people left school early to work and help their families, and there were jobs that you could do without having much education that would pay enough to make ends meet.

As time passed and the way of life changed, a college education became increasingly important. This is because the job market has changed, the factory-type jobs that did not require formal education no longer exist, and a college education is more accessible. First an Associate's degree was sufficient, then a Bachelor's. Today, a Master's is sufficient but a Ph.D is necessary to be really competitive. This is especially true in the social sciences.

My advice would be to plan on getting a Master's. And since we are in a globalized and digital society, focus attention on learning at least one additional language and take as many computer application courses as you can. These additional skills will make you more competitive in any field.

But at the end of the day, the social sciences are not useless nor are degrees in those areas. We need sociologists, psychologists, anthropologists, communications experts etc. more now than ever before (because of the ever-changing nature of the global society) so don't be scared away by all the naysayers. If people continue to shy away from social sciences due to the fact that they need a Master's, the ones who have degrees in those areas will become more valuable.
