Help me understand Twitter a little better!?

I feel like such an idiot for not getting this at all. I'm just curious as to how those trending topics. Or also when you put this sign # in front of certain sayings and when you use RT, what does it all mean? I understand how to retweet and i'm thinking thats what RT means right now, but i would just like a simple explanation of all those things and also how to use twitpic. Thanks!

for twitpic go to twitpic.com and sign up [it should automatically log in after asking for your twitter log in] and then u just upload pics there and choose for them to post to your twitter stream

RT is retweeting, yes

# or hashtag- you put those infront of words people may be searching on twitter and may see your post

TT or trending topics- usualy displayed on the right sidebar of the your homepage are popular words people are tweeting with hashtags.
