Would you support your political party even if they were bad for the economy?

Republicans, imagine if Republicans ran the House, Senate, and White House. They pushed for deregulation, limited Government, and lower taxes for everyone. And imagine (hypothetically) that this caused a very wealthy 2% and a very, very, very poor 98%. Would you change your economic policies? Or are there reasons to support your party based on philosophical ideals in free market capitalism regardless of whether it promotes a healthy economy?

Democrats, imagine if Democrats ran the House, Senate, and White House. They pushed for a more progressive tax system, an adequate safety net for the poor, and an appropriate amount of Government regulation/spending. And imagine (hypothetically) that this caused a stagnant economy, high unemployment, and everyone to be poorer. Would you change your economic policies? Or are there reasons to support your party based on philosophical ideals in social welfare regardless of whether it promotes a healthy economy?
Sorry, Mr Ed! Of course there are other philosophies, these are just the ones I'm most familiar with and could up with a hypo for.

No, which is why I don't support either of the parties you mentioned.

PS the republican party does not support free market capitalism, they support crony capitalism, aka corporatism (same as the Dems), please research these terms.

edit: I guess I mainly have to take issue with the idea that 'free market capitalism' is somehow responsible for economic inequality when in fact it's the opposite, the 0.1% got where they are by cheating, they HATE capitalism. It gives the rest of us a fighting chance. Free market capitalism means a level playing field, and fair competition. MERITOCRACY. Globalist big box stores would be out of business if they actually had to compete fairly. Goldman Sachs couldn't even exist if they had to follow the same laws as the rest of us. Goldman Sachs is the antithesis of 'capitalism' and I'm tired of hearing 'capitalism' used as if its a dirty word, always being associated with these criminals who are fundamentally anti-capitalist. The irony is enough to make my f*cking head explode. K?

If you want to hear options about how to reform the economy, and the monetary system, and the banking system, you need to look elsewhere, because despite all the hemming and hawing on TV, the two major parties are 100% identical when it comes to these issues.

I support the democratic party because I support their overall positions. Should those shift beyond where I am comfortable with, I likely wouldnt support them. However I'd remain a registered democrat in the hopes of influencing change from within, a far easier task than attempting to go it alone and build a whole new coalition.
