Can I go to jail for cyberbullying?
Alright so on twitter someone was verbally abusing me so I started verbally abusing him. I said some mexican racial slurs cause he was calling me the "n" word. This went on for an hour of us just going back and forth.

He says he can get someone to track me down that's undercover and send me to jail. Can you go to jail for racially/verbally abusing him?? I'm only 15 and kind of scared atm. I'm not looking to report this cause I could care less about him hurting my feelings. I'm just worried that he can actually get someone to track me.

The act of cyberbullying (bullying through the Internet or cell phone) may be a crime, even if there is no specific cyberbullying law. It is already illegal in your state to threaten someone with injury and to harass or stalk another person. If a cell phone or the Internet is involved with any of these acts, then the victim has been cyberbullied.

If you’re under 18 and charged with a cyberbullying offense, you could be taken to juvenile detention. The court decides whether to release you pending trial and under what terms you’ll be released. For example, you may be restricted from using the Internet until the case is concluded or placed on house arrest. Most likely you’ll be restricted from any contact with the victim.

In this case, he was verbally abusing you also so he really has no point for calling you out on it.

Hes definitely bullshitting, don't worry about it. Its only for really serious harrassment or bullying

There are different laws in different states. This is a great website for researching the penalties in your state, whether you can go to jail or if the school can take action or neither.

The only one that can track you really is your ISP and Twitter, possibly the web browser you were using. This kid is pretty stupid, you can't go to jail for that, saying a few racial slurs and insults is rude, what usually gets people in legal trouble for cyber bullying goes on for days and is usually more than racial insults to a stranger. Basically unless twitter shows IPs there is no possibility of him being able to track you unless you were dumb enough to use your real name, in which case he can go around and find other accounts but either way the person can't arrest you, the only ones that could in this case are the cops if he reports it to them, I highly doubt that they'll allow someone to arrest for someone they know. Also as other's mentioned it is two way, the only thing I'd be afraid of is getting account banned.
