Help career wise please :D?
What to do when I leave uni?
I'm currently studying English at university afterwards I originally wanted to do a PGCE in secondary education but I spoke to an adviser who said to be a teacher you need to be thoroughly passionate about it but to be honest I don't want to it was just a route to take because I don't know what else to go down; I've decided against teaching. I then jumbled with the idea of doing a masters in creative writing as the teachers really want me there but my uni is really far away I couldn't afford the accommodation.

My friend studying law then said I could go down the paralegal/legal executive route so I was going to take these two courses alongside working for 3 years to get experience in the field alongside studying Smile I'm also getting a bit tired of intense academic work so do you think these courses are any good? They're the best I could find in my area in the field I want to study and I can't do anything like a degree in Law because to be honest I don't think that's necessary and then I'd have to pay for extra A levels to do it as mine don't fit the requirements, not to mention money I am not doing another degree Smile?

Get this...

Then study further to get this... Smile

English is one of those subjects, in my opinion, that has a very vague direction and can be very open to various career paths. You could easily: go into journalism; become a writer; go into marketing/copywriting; become a teacher; do something completely random; etc.

Teaching is not the only choice. If you are still able to do so, there is a scheme called Student Ambassador or Student Associates (or whatever they call it now). It's a 2 week experience in a classroom environment to see if you like working there. It's good for a paid taster.
If not, you could see if you could get some volunteering experience with a local school to get some insight.
I'm not saying you should go into teaching, but it pays for you to see what it's about before you start ruling it out or setting yourself doubts about it.

If the university is far away, you could try to ask to do a long distance course to cut down the costs and travel. I am not sure if the college you mentioned does that sort of thing, but it's worth asking.
The other alternative is to travel there every time a lecture is on. I know of a fellow graduate who did that since she was only living 50 miles away. However, I am not sure whether this is feasible for a master's course.
I did a MSc in social science subjects, so that may be different to an arts subject and can very different to creative writing in particular. But for me, it was really intensive, partly because it was an intensive course, and the hours I needed to dedicate to the course is significantly more to what I have done for my bachelor's, pro rata.

I don't know what it's like to do law, but part time study with work can be a bit of a juggle. Trust me as I have been studying for professional qualifications whilst doing part time work at the same time. If you're prepared to sacrifice most of your free time for this, it can be worth your while.

You may also want to ask about the following access course for a pathway to law:

I am not saying you should get a degree in law, but it's open as an option.

I strongly recommend you talk to a solicitor who is in the field that you're interested in for career advice. It's also good for networking.
Specialist recruiters may be able to provide some help as well, so it should be worth your while to ask them.

Hope this helps
