How do i get to know new people from USA via internet?

Well, i live in Sweden and i am almost 17 years old, my english writing skills are pretty communicative. What would you suggest me? I just want to make some new friends, improve my writing skills and I just want to know some new people from USA/maybe UK, mostly 16-22 years old.

What could you suggest me, except facebook/twitter, etc. I'm not just going to invite people that I don't know.
