Nexus 7 vs.Kindle Fire?
I'm asking in terms of speed, it's not for me, it's for my mum so it would be used heavily for internet browsing and facebook most likely. We have terrible internet anyway (0.3mps) so a speedy browser would be a bit helpful.
HD quality isn't that important, it's not something my mum is bothered about.
I also see that the Kindle does not have access to the Google Play store, what's the Amazon app market like? Is it any good?

Review on Kindle Fire HD vs Nexus 7:
http://www.amazon.com/review/R3N2A47ZWCN...afkagrw-20

- To be frank both wont have any issues with the speed on surfing net or Facebook.
- You can still sideload apps from google play store on Kindle Fire...... The App store has over 60k apps by now and does have most of the apps you need.

Here is the apps store, make sure to look for some specific app that you might want:

Kindle Fire HD has pros like:
- Dual wifi antenna which makes it good for faster downloads and streaming
- HDMI out
- Digital dolby audio
- Xray for movies
- Amazon content and services. You can get better prices for good amount of stuff.

I would like to suggest you a nexus 7:
the reason is like below:
This tablet certainly isn’t the thinnest 7-inch tablet in the world at 0.41″, but it’s extremely light, and the relatively soft plastic back is super comfortable to handle. This device is sized at 7.8″ x 4.72″ x 0.41″ so you can fit it in your back pocket if you wish, and the display, at a whopping 7-inches with 1280 x 800 pixel LED-backlit IPS (216 ppi), is more than fabulous enough for your HD-loving eyeballs. For comparison’s sake: the Galaxy Tab 7.7 is 196ppi and the iPad 3 is 264ppi, so you’ve got a device that’s right up there in the big leagues

If you're in the UK, you may be interested in this review. It mentioned something on choosing the tablets and recommended apps on the Kindle Fire in UK:

I say the Kindle Fire HD model, it has dual band dual-antenna Wi-Fi, should be better on internet connection thing. Nexus 7 has full access to apps in Google Play store, but you can actually sideload a lot of apps from Google Play store on the Kindle Fire as well.

Hope that helps.

I looked closely at these two tablets in order to get my wife one for Christmas. My result was the Nexus 7 for several reasons.
It seems the Fire is very Amazon oriented with lots of pre loaded adverts (you can pay an extra £10 not to have them). The Nexus has access to Google Play Store. Various shop assistants I spoke to all recommended the Nexus. Several people I know have the Nexus and are delighted with it.
So, there you go; those were my findings if it's of any help.
