How do you use Twitter?
I just joined Twitter, but I don't really understand how everything works. What is the hashtag for? What about @? Could you just explain how to use it and all the little tricks and all that jazz? Sorry for the not-so-technological user..

Thanks.Smile

The hashtag is to trend topics. E.g #NickiMinaj. You want people to talk about her on twitter. The @ is to mention someone in your tweet. E.g @Yourname so that they receive your tweet . Its like posting on someones timeline except it appears on your timeline.

You can do many things there. The @ is to mention someone (such as a chat) and a hashtag is using #. Trends can happen with hashtags. A timeline is new tweets is from people you follow. Interactions show people that chat with you, who recently followed you, who rewteeted your tweets and favorited your tweets. Mentions is only chats with you. The timeline is at the top left. The Connect is next to it. The Discover is next to that. Discover is what you can do such as checking what people retweeted, favorited, or who they followed. Hope this helps.

The Hashtag is a way for people to see your tweets who have the same interests, etc. For instance, if you tweeted something like "Just been surfing! #surfing #surf #beach" then people looking at tweets under those hashtags will see you and be like 'oh, he likes surfing too, I'll follow him' or retweet your tweet.

The @ symbol is for when you want to tweet another user, so that the message is directly to them and not to anyone else.

eg. @twitteruser hi! whats up?

To get followers, include your interests and hobbies in your bio, and if you follow back, etc.

eg. 'Hi my names Sapphire, I love Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. I ALWAYS follow back!'

This way, people who are interested in the same things that you are will know to follow you.

Don't spam twitter though, constant promotional tweets and tweeting celebs constantly will annoy people and cause them to unfollow you!

Hope I helped!
