Hi Jfof, I have some experience in online marketing and with Google adwords so I will try my best.

First the person searching must be using google for them to find you on google. But no worries most people do use google in fact.

Second , what you might want to keep in mind is that " searching " and " going to a link" are 2 different things. Searching is when you open a google browser page and type for example 'facebook' and click to search. This will give you the real facebook website but also many many other results about facebook.
Link is when you put something like: http://www.facebook.com

This, the link, will give the person only 1 result. It will take them to your website without giving them different results.


Now, say you can't give out the link. Say your site is called jfof-fitness.com and your question is how can a stranger looking for fitness tips in their area find your website on google? Then you want to create an account on adwords.google.com

You will create a bunch of ad groups in each one you put keywords. For the example mentioned earlier you can use keywords "jfof " "fitness", "lose weight" , "workout help", "how to be healthy" etc... So when somebody looks up those keywords they find jfof-fitness.com among the results.You set a budget and pay money per keyword group.

But , many many sites compete to be at the top of the search results, on the first page of google. So how is it decided? Google advertisers compete by placing higher bids. The more money you pay the higher the ad. If you pay 20 cents per keyword group. you are higher than someone who paid 5 cents for that keyword group and therefore your website shows before him in the results.

Don't worry about all these details because google will help you and assist you in setting up your google adwords account and little by little you will learn everything about it i learned these basica in less than a month , and i keep learning new things everyday
