So I am writing a paper on the movie It Happened One Night (1934) & Ball of Fire (1941) I think have the right answer for this question but I just want to make sure. Here it is:

How do the reflect the Great Depression and its aftermath in their portrayal of social class?

Since the two of them are screwball comedies we were able to laugh at ourselves after all those depressing years of the stock market crash and all the bad environmental losses (crops and the bad sandstorm) on the prairies of the drought and wind storm. People were able to view themselves as a media population to think on something else besides pinching pennies, no income and no jobs. Movies helped in those days to get people thinking about something else to think about. The Great Depression at that time had people that lost everything. Homes, jobs, and getting by day to day with soup kitchens, food lines, and migrated west and other places to find hope......
