What happens to your house when....?
So in social studies we were discussing what happens to your house when the government takes part of your lad to expand the road.
So say there is a niehborhood and on the street there is 10 houses. Now say they are going to take part of your land to expand the road. Now I am pretty sure they go to you and offer you money or something but what if out of 10 people, 8 of them say yes and 2 of them say no. What do they do? Is it like majority rules? Someone please help me and answer! Ads |

Google: Emminent Domain.
They take what they want anyway. Offer appraised value. Ads |

Eminent domain - They can TAKE your house for the public good. If you don't like the $$$ they offer, you can sue, but they will still flatten your house.....

the issue isn't up for voting. The gvpt will come to each homeowner and offer them fair market value for the property. There isn't anything that can be done. A homeowner can sue to first have the project stopped, but by the time they have come and made the offer, it's way to late.
Or the homeowner can sue for more money. However, they would have to show that the property is actually worth more, not just what they think. In the end, the homeowner will lose their property. |
