Is there a market for male social workers?
I wouldnt want to be a social worker per say, but if the degree in social work can be used for other things such as health advocacy and public policy then yes the degree is worth it. My question is what is the actual job market demand for male social workers and guidance counselors?

the "only" social workers I've seen during my long life were at the state offices like where they determine welfare and sign you up for food stamps. and social workers used to be a step down from MSW, as they would give psycholigical counseling at places like women's places where those women were trying to get over a divorce and restarting their lives. When people say the degree in social work isn't worth it they mean the pay is low and the student loans are high and so it's difficult to get those loans paid.

Today there are social workers who own their own business and individually take on clients for learning "life" situations, like "life coach". Some even add hypnosis to their practice. I'd think though before you start something like that that you check with your state as to what the requirements are to open such a business (like what education you'd need, along with the state license).
