How to use twitter properly?

I just made a twitter 4 days ago. I know how to follow people and all of that but i dont know how to use hashtags and stuff. Also when I reply to someone's tweet, their twitter handle (@john) comes out in black instead of blue like it does for everyone else. Also how do I use hashtags in my tweets properly? thanks

So lets say, you were going to go see Justin Bieber, and he was the love of your life. you could be like "OH MY GOD GOING TO SEE @JUSTINBIEBER #SOEXCITED" the hashtag is a tag of your choice showing either emotion, or a side note. Another example would be "Just planked on the empire state building! #GOMNL" (get on my next level) - demonstrating your bragging rights.
