How can I make a @ using a keyboard of a mini dell laptop ? I typed shift first and @ and it did not work !?

Also I would like to copy some pictures from my mini Dell laptop to my Ipad and I don't know how to do that.

•There is no embedded keypad on the mini's. The special character keys ( !, @, # etc) can be used for numbers.
•There are NO Num lock, Caps Lock or Scroll lock indicator lights.

•On the Inspiron™ 1012, the Fn key need not be used in combination with various Multimedia keys. The default setting in the BIOS is ”Multimedia” under the Advanced Tab. If the user wishes to use the Fn key combinations, the option in the BIOS should be accordingly set to ”Function Key”.
By installing the Function Key Utility, the BIOS setting can be controlled from the Operating System from Start–>All Programs
–>Function Keys
•Multimedia Key First option is active only within the Operating System. To enter the setup or Boot Menu, the user still needs to tap F2 or F12.
