What does this question have to do with getting a job?
I know how the job application personality tests work, and how they categorize you in "green, yellow, red" for whether or not you'll get a call back (which is stupid), but I'm having a lot of trouble with this specific questionnaire which is a lot different from most that I've taken.

The question is:

"How many times a week do you visit social media sites (ex. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter)"
a. 0
b. 1-2
c. 6-10
d. 25+

What is the point of this question..?

To see whether you will be on your phone all the time instead of working!

Pretend I'm the hiring manager. Answer high, and I will check your posts to see if you bashed previous employers or talked about work-specific things. I also want to see if you post pics of you drinking or getting high. People do it. I also want to know if you are going to be the type to goof off on the clock.

The employers may not want someone who spends all their time on Facebook, Myspace or Twitter, or someplace like that. They probably want someone who is more active, or someone who will not rush through work (if you have to take it home) to go visit these sites.

Personality tests are designed to tell what kind of employee you will be. The social media site question will be to determine how much time you will waste at work checking your accounts.

Hehe...everytime i take one of those stupid personality tests, i flash back to the opening scene of "blade runner" (see it if you haven't). This question is there way of gauging how "social-media-savvy" you are, it also could serve as a way for them to gauge the likelihood of you goofing off on one of those sites while on the clock. Furthermore, if they really want to get into your business, they can search your profiles and see what dirt they can dig up.

mmm probably to see if you have a social media profile so they can look you up, and see how 'responsible/mature/appropriate' you look for the job.
Or to see if you're a total social media addict.

It certainly seems like a valid question to ask in a personality test, but I don't know what the other questions are, so I can't tell if this question is really "out there" or not.

As far as why this is a valid question:

If you answer that you never go to Facebook etc., that might mean that you either don't have friends, or that you don't spend a lot of time online.

On the other hand if you say you spend a lot of time online, that may mean that you have a lot of friends, or that you're superficial, or that you might waste time online even when you're supposed to be working.

Notice that this is all "might mean" - the best they can do is review your answers for this question along with your answers for other ones to see which of these "mights" might be the correct explanation.

Anyway, if you aren't sure how to answer it, say c. 6-10, because that's once a day, which doesn't seem weird either way.
