What's the deal with some people showing up online and offline over and over again on facebook chat?

I'll see some people, one girl in particular, who will have the green dot then just the mobile sign then the green dot then the mobile sign over and over for hours and the green dot wont last for long...sometimes for just a second.

What's the deal with that? Is that what happens when you open up the facebook app? You get shown as online? And she's just crazy checking her feed or what? lol. (im fairly new to facebook)

that happens with my girlfriend all the time. in her case its cuz she uses facebook on her phone. but then in order to text with her phone she has to get off facebook. then when she's done using it she goes back on. that's a possibility

Maybe she wants to appear offline and is checking who is online?

she's probably just checking to see who's on chat, and then turning chat off again when she doesn't see anyone she wants to talk to.
