I need to create a calendar for work and I need to be sure to include events, important dates, deadlines etc. I would like it to be color codable as well as able to sort and export into excel spreadsheets. I need to be able to mark areas for social media, as well as who the information goes to. Any ideas besides creating a huge and messy excel spreadsheet? Thanks!

If you have Excel, I assume you also have Outlook. Have you checked out your Outlook calendar? It is colour codable, to an extent. It provides deadlines, schedules events, and organises meetings by sending appointments to all participants. You can set up recurring events e.g. important anniversaries, days off, regular appointments ... and it shows the public holidays for your country. You can co-ordinate it with colleagues, and view their calendars (if they let you!). It will remind you of meetings in advance. If you have Lync, it also co-ordinates with your phone. You can also set up an Outlook calendar for your organisation's meeting rooms etc. This is a really useful business tool, which I find indispensable.

VueMinder Pro is designed to do exactly what you describe. It's like Outlook on steroids, but easier to use, less expensive, and much more capable.

Events, notes, and tasks can be color-coded in a variety of ways. Colors are also included when exporting to Excel or HTML web pages.

The pages linked below should help you get started.
