What is "Security Tool"? Is this an actual antivirus program or a malicious virus?
It all started when I opened an e-mail from facebook family link that was in my inbox. All of a sudden this window pops up saying that I have 44 viruses on the computer. It said that I had to download something to take care of the viruses. I clicked on it and since then the computer has never been the same again. Oddly enough I already had an antivirus program installed called F-Secure 2010. How can anyone avoid what happened to me?

If you have already downloaded "Security Tool", you must uninstall it, it is a rogue antispyware tool.
Guide to Remove "Security Tool":
1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and delete "security tool" as the way you delete other virus.
2. Then you need to delete it again manually.
1) Kill the security tool.exe process.

%UserProfile%\Application Data\4946550101\4946550101.exe

Use manual removal guide only in SAFE MODE.
