Has society become so apathetic to reaching out to other people especially when some one is in dire need of help? Has social media replaced knowing how to interact with real people and therefore having community is primarily a virtual one now?

Oh my god yeah. My friend is always on facebook and he always gets all happy when a random girl accepts his request or when she responds to his message but in reality when he sees that girl he was talking to on facebook earlier, he practically ignores her. Why? Probably not used to real human interaction with girls

Yes, and adults are getting just as hooked as the kids. Internet addiction is the fastest growing addiction around the world that has ever been.

There's still plenty of human community action today, celebrations, parades, church, ball games, community swimming pools, golf courses, gyms, clubs, hunting, fishing; but maybe not for long.
