How do you escape the friendzone?

so theres this girl, we are really really close! we talk like every day at school, and for hours upon hours on facebook when were not at school. she is a really really nice girl but i only thought of her as a friend. but then i strted to fall for her when we got really close. i havent told her cause im afraid itll make things awkward. a similar thing happened with one of my other friends and his friend who was a girl, it got really awkward between them and they dont speak much now. I don want that to happen with me and my freind. we tell eachother everything and she mentions about who she likes and stuff and vice versa.. but she has been going through a bit of a difficult timerecently, she has started self harming, she was rejected and her other "best freind" just blanks her now. i have been there and helped her through all of these and she is really grateful for that!

so i dunno what to do! valentines is coming up so should i ask her out or just remain as freinds? also she never hugs me... but she does with everyone else... i would really like a hug...... but i dunno how to get one...

oh and we constantly say love youu to each other and stuff!

Ask her if she wants to go somewhere on valentines dayy.. Take it slow.. then at dinner , compliment her.. Not too much tho ! Smile & look at her deep in her eyes , & tell her she might not feel the same way , but you care about her more than just a friend & you thought she should know..
