Why is my Dell Inspiron 1501 not charging?
So, my great uncle bought a laptop about 5 years ago. He enjoyed it, I guess, and then kind of forgot he had it, so my dad found it at their business and gave it to me since my uncle hasn't used it in about a year. When I started it up, it wouldn't work without the charger, and now it will only work while plugged in. What caused it to do this? What can I do about it? Thanks!

You will need a new battery. Any battery after a while will lose it's ability to hold a charge.

the battery has died and needs replaced, this is very common with batteries that have been left unused for a long time, just replace the battery and it will be fine again, if it works while plugged it it means the charger is working fine so its just the battery

Hello Haley,
My name is Krishna and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. Based on your post, you may need a replacement Battery. However, try the steps mentioned in the below link and see if it helps.

Please note, the battery carries only 1 year warranty, regardless of your full system warranty.
