Republicans: How do you plan to stop the spread of gay marriage?
First, I am not trying to spread my agenda with this question. I am strictly speaking from a political science perspective. Second, your views on gay marriage does not make you a bigot. They just mean that religion plays an important role in your life. Some of my friends will slap me(metaphorically) right across the face if I tell them that I support gay marriage. This allows me to understand your point of view....

Now to my question - Twelve years ago people would have been appalled if you even mentioned gay marriage. Now, nine states allow gay marriage and Iowa, surprisingly, is one of the nine states. Most polls show that the American public is slowly becoming soft on this issue. Soon, more states will allow same sex marriage. A day will come when North Dakota and Mississippi will allow same sex marriage. This might occur decades from now, but I am positive that it will occur.

Instead of fighting this issue, perhaps you should focus on other ones. Call it a disease or social justice, gay marriage is becoming ever more common in the states.

I really don't care what gay people do and I didn't become a republican to tell others what to do.

The leadership at the top (Carl Rove, the Koch Brothers, Rupert Murdoch, Republican party leaders etc.) don't actually have a plan to stop gay marriage, and for that matter, they don't really care whether gays get married or not. They just know that campaigning against gay marriage is a great way to distract attention away from the fact that their only "economic plan" is more tax cuts for the rich (repeat the failed Bush policies). The whole issue of opposition to gay marriage is just a gimmick to get votes for Republicans, and the Tea Party base continues to fall for this every single election cycle, while jobs continue to get shipped overseas, and the deficit continues to climb from tax cuts for the rich.

What we ought to do is put it to a vote of the people and not allow that vote to be overturned in court.

I don't plan to stop it. I am sick of the whole subject. My opinions on gay marriage were never very strong. I have been wearied into not even caring anymore. Not only do I not care, I don't care what proponents think of me for not caring.

Let's just legalize it so everybody will shut the hache up.

First, I don't like to use the word "gay" in reference to homosexuals. Gay traditionally means happy. If homosexuals are happy then I guess they are gay. I don't agree with homosexual marriage, but I don't know that it's an important enough issue to merit all the attention it gets. Should it be legal? I would think that is up to a state or local jurisdiction to decide. If they want to allow it that should be their choice. If they don't want to allow it that should be their choice.

As a conservative who usually votes Republican I would say the party has many more important issues than whether to allow the sanctioning of a same-sex relationship as a marriage. Homosexual marriage is an interesting diversion when we have a country headed for a fiscal train wreck, when we have serious challenges to parts of the Bill of Rights and when we are under attack by real enemies who would like to kill us.

Same-sex marriage won't go away if we ignore it, but if we ignore it I won't have to think about it and that is good enough for me. So let's just ignore it. Let people do what they want to do and let God decide whether it is immoral enough to punish. Meantime, I'd like the news media to concentrate on some real issues just for a change.

Same-sex marriage is not a real issue, in my book.
