Can an app access my private mails?

I was on Facebook and I clicked on this "find out who will be your valentine" app.

I'm really worried because after I'd already pressed accept and then I realized I gave it access to my inbox and messages.

Will the app actually get access to it? and how do I stop this?!?!

Yes, There are chances of it. Just go to your "My apps" and remove that app from your account. Change your password and update security section.
